Test Yourself

“Test Yourself” Podcasts

In this section of ” Instructional Podcasts ” we see just how well you can play your chords. You can test yourself regarding your progress by timing your chord drills. I’ve recorded myself playing different types of chords. For example: if you can play all of your major triads in 24 seconds, I consider that a ” Very Good” time. If you can play all or your major triads in 12 seconds, I consider that a ” Excellent ” time. And lastly, If you can play all of your major triads in 6 seconds, that is a ” professional ” time !

Remember the quicker you can play / grab a chord without thinking about it, the more you will be able to focus on improvisation and melodic phrasing etc… In other words playing musically ! If you need to take ” time ” to find a chord then you will not be able to keep the flow of music going. I can’t stress enough, the importance of ” seeing ” the chords instantly. In fact, it is a good practice to “visualize” chords away from the piano. Visualizing chords away from the piano is a GREAT way to Test Yourself.
